Your tour begins with a pick-up from Lyttelton Port, followed by an opportunity to explore the township’s historic streets, boutique shops, and working harbour atmosphere. From here, the journey continues up to the Evans Pass lookout, where sweeping views stretch across Lyttelton Harbour.
The route then descends to Sumner Beach, where there is time to enjoy the relaxed seaside village atmosphere and take a stroll along the waterfront. Continuing on, the journey passes through New Zealand’s second-longest road tunnel before stopping at Cass Bay for a relaxed morning or afternoon tea in a peaceful coastal setting.
From here, the tour continues around the harbour to Governors Bay, where there is time to take in the views and visit the historic jetty. The final part of the journey explores the upper Port Hills, with stops at the Sign of the Bellbird Scenic Reserve and the Sign of the Takahe, both offering elevated views across Christchurch, the Canterbury Plains, and Lyttelton Harbour.
As the experience concludes, you return to Christchurch city centre or Lyttelton Port, bringing your half-day journey to a close after exploring some of the region’s most iconic coastal and hilltop viewpoints.

We offer this shore excursion twice daily, departing at either 8:30 am or 1:00 pm. Or at a time that fits with your cruise ship schedule.
What time does the shore excursion end?
We aim to be back in Lyttelton or the city centre at 12:00 pm or 4:30 pm (depending on which session you book) or before your ship’s departure.
Can this shore excursion fit my cruise ship schedule?
Yes. Our schedules are flexible and can be adjusted to match the cruise-ship sail times. If, for any reason, you’re not back on your ship before it departs, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered and we will make sure you reach the ship’s next port of call.
